What is a prosthodontist?
Prosthodontics
is the only specialty recognized by the American Dental Association
that deals with reconstruction of teeth, esthetics/cosmetics,
and function.
A maxillofacial prosthodontist is a dental specialist in the
restoration and replacement of teeth. Prosthodontic treatment
includes cosmetic dentistry; implant prostheses, dentures, partials,
crowns, veneers, bridges, oral cancer reconstructions, TMD jaw-problems,
etc
Extensive training and education provide prosthodontists with
the skills for restoring optimum function and esthetics to your
smile.
In order to be a maxillofacial prosthodontist, a graduate dental
professional must complete (after dental school) 3-years of
prosthodontic residency training at a university approved by
the American Dental Association (ADA), plus a one-year maxillofacial
prosthetic fellowship at an ADA approved fellowship program.
